8 Lake County ice cream spots you must try this summer

The cherry on top of summer, will always be ice cream! With temperatures heating up, those summertime scoops are the tried- and-true treat to keep you cool and satisfied all summer long. With National Ice Cream Month kicking off this July, Visit Lake toured six of our favorite local ice cream shops in Lake County, each with a unique take on the creamy dessert.

Yo Ho Ho Nitro Ice Cream & Tasty Grub

A local dairy supplies the cream for a nitro-infused treat at Yo Ho Ho Ice Cream in Eustis. Shop owner Tish Patino told us that the ice cream base has only seven ingredients, we gave two of their favorites at try. The first was an infusion of lemon, mint, and lavender, an unlikely yet yummy combo. If you’re a coffee lover, you can give this one a try, too. It has an infusion of Cuban coffee and chocolate.

Lakeside Skoop

Just steps away from Ferran Park in Eustis, Lakeside Skoop gives you the feel of an old-time pharmacy. With more than 60 flavors and endless combinations, it’s the perfect place for ice cream with a view, specifically a view of Lake Eustis. We tried this one — a vanilla rainbow swirl with whipped cream and a cherry.

Three cheers for butterbeer. If you’ve tried this deliciously creamy, frothy drink at Universal Orlando, you’ll love this shaved ice at Sunsational Citrus topped with a creamy mixture.

Melting Rolls Leesburg

Rolled ice cream, anyone? Yes, please! A take on Thailand street food is found right here in Leesburg. We gave this coffee infused, brownie and graham cracker concoction called the “Road Trip” a try and man, was it good. There are endless possibilities here for everyone to try.

Dairy Ranch

There is a 99 percent chance you’ve had Ms. Janet “Jan” Curry make your ice cream at Dairy Ranch in Leesburg. She’s worked at the hometown favorite for more than 40 years. Dairy Ranch serves up delicious milkshakes, banana splits and sprinkled dipped cones, too. Although they have new ownership, your favorites ice cream treats won’t be going anywhere.

Scoops on 5th

Nestled in downtown Mt. Dora, Scoops on 5th is the go-to spot for a quick an convenient treat while exploring the shops of Mt. Dora. We gave the coffee chocolate ice cream with a dipped cake cone a try.

Rolled ice cream + cookie dough = Amazing! Monster Dough in Mount Dora serves up this Thailand street food with their own twist by adding a scoop of fresh cookie dough each day. We gave the Monster Dough shake a try. It is strawberry cheesecake ice cream and a scoop of their signature monster dough cookie dough added. It is one cool, treat. We also tried a signature birthday cake rolled ice cream with a scoop of monster dough cookie dough on top. If you are not in the mood for ice cream, you can purchase just cookie dough.

Right off Main Street Tavares Ice Cream serves up sweet and cold treats in “America’s Seaplane City.” We gave the chocolate ice cream with a waffle cone a try.
